I don’t know who needs to hear this but…it’s not that serious.

Sure, there are certain aspects in life that we need to take seriously. Aspects such as our spirituality, health, loved ones, and livelihood have significance in a lot of our lives; but a lot of us add more areas to the “serious list.” We care about what people think, and how we look to other people. We care about what others are doing, and who they are doing it with. We worry because our project didn’t turn out as perfect as we wanted it to. We even go as far as setting contingencies for our happiness. “When I get a higher paying job, I will feel more fulfilled.” “When I am in a romantic relationship, I will be happier.” I disagree with these sentiments. Now, there is nothing wrong with desiring a higher quality of life, but we can’t allow wistfulness to blind us from the beauty that’s right in front of us.

A lot of the things that we are worried about don’t really matter in the long run; and they prevent us from enjoying the joy that life has to offer. We can’t allow anxiety to prevent us from being present and discovering the things that make us happy. Use the resources you’ve got to get what you want…and make sure to have some fun while doing it. I know it’s easier said than done…trust me, I’m speaking to myself as much as you. I’m not expecting perfection…just awareness. Will I be fearless, carefree, happy-go-lucky? Nope. Will I try to have a healthy work/play balance? Absolutely.

After all, in the words of Tiwa Savage…”I no come this life to suffer.”
