Y’all. Today drained me. In fact, I’m still a bit stressed because there are so many things that on my to-do list that are left undone. I had a stressful day of work, and then took a midterm in the evening. I’ve got writing assignments for school that I need to complete (including practice bar exam essays), and an important memo that a partner at my firm is expecting in two days. I also need to sort through hundreds of emails to make sure that I didn’t neglect to put something on my calendar. I have a strange feeling that something important fell through the cracks.
Blogging is not on my official to-do list, but here I am…blogging anyway. Working on my book, editing photos, and planning content was also not on that list but I made sure to do these things as well. I don’t know how I’m so calm in the midst of so many deadlines that are before me. I’m not saying this to brag, but I think I might have inspired myself to create space for the things that make me happy.
How, you ask? It’s actually kind of simple. By looking at my “drafts” folder. I was on a short break today when I decided to look at the things that I created that I never shared. The photos that I never edited. The stories in Google docs that I never completed. There are so many creative projects in my possession that I need to dust off and complete. I also take random screenshots of aesthetic photos that I want to recreate (like the featured Nana Jacqueline photo above) ; and I often forget about them. I’m almost positive that I’m not alone. I’m sure that you also have an extensive “drafts” folder of your own. Is there is an IG Reel that you’re too scared to share? How about that business plan that you’ve been working on but never completed? If you just took a look at your unfinished work, I bet if you’d inspire yourself, too.
So, in the midst of my looming to-do list, I’m taking a break and doing something that makes me happy. I’m still stressed, but I think I’m finding a management system that works for me. Creativity is a substantial part of that system.
I love that for myself. Give it a try if you haven’t already. I bet you’d love that for yourself, too.
xo,
-D.
