I’ve carried this story in my heart for nearly ten years. For so long, I wasn’t sure how to bring it to life — I just knew it was there, waiting. Then last Friday, something shifted. I sat down at work, and before I knew it, I had drafted the entire thing. I’ve never done that before.
Two years ago, I wrote and posted She Was Always in Beautiful Shoes: A Short Story and somehow, it flows almost perfectly with my current draft. The funny thing is, I wasn’t even thinking about that story when I started writing.
It might be a little early to share this with the world, but I want to document the journey — from the spark to the story. I’ve always known I wanted to write about love (in all its forms), fashion, and the beautiful duality of my Nigerian-American culture.
Ernest Hemingway once said, “The only kind of writing is rewriting,” and I know I’ve got ALOT of rewriting ahead of me.
So, I’ve officially designated Fridays as my writing day. I’m excited, nervous, and ready. Here’s to Week 2 of finally beginning the story that’s been writing itself in my heart for years. I hope you’ll follow along with me!
